I know that for many of you this title of this article may be a bit disturbing. A Gay Viking? Blasphemous you say. In the case of Rob Halford, you could not be more wrong. Arthur's Hall of Viking Manliness does not generally consider homosexuality very manly. This article is mostly about Rob Halford but it is also about how we view homosexuality here on the Hall. It is widely held that this is a homophobic website. We here at the Hall do not give a damn what people do in their bedrooms. Legislating individual choice and preference is an affront to conservatism. We stand for individual liberty and that does encompass sexual behavior. What we do not appreciate is the thought that people are entitled to different social status due to their sexuality.

We stand in firm opposition to the gay lobby. The gay lobby has done their best to force this lifestyle into the public eye. This is unnecessary and potentially destructive. A truly conservative view is to oppose all sexual education in our schools and fight against efforts to bring any type of sexual behavior into the public realm. It is a discussion for the two (or more) people involved. I am appalled at shows that glorify porn stars, swingers, gay behavior, etc. Sitting around enjoying the Playboy bunnies on TV while castigating homosexuality is not only chump but hypocritical.

While having sex with men, by definition, is in direct opposition to some of the basic tenets of Viking manliness. All that aside, I ask you to consider this man and set aside his seemingly unfitting sexual lifestyle. It is unfitting because Rob Halford is a Viking in every sense of the word (aside from his taste for cock).

Halford, as you BETTER know, is best known as the lead singer of the British metal band, Judas Priest. His vocals, along with the groundbreaking duel leads of Glenn Tipton and KK Downing, made Judas Priest the first real metal band. For that reason alone, Rob, as the leader of the band, deserves to be enshrined in the Viking Hall of Fame. None of our lives would be the same had it not been for Priest. Without Priest it is safe to say that there would be no Iron Maiden and so on and so forth. His contribution to the world of metal goes much further than fronting the first metal band however. If you have ever heard the man sing, you would know that he is the greatest lead singer in metal, and perhaps, rock history. Only his idol, Freddie Mercury, can be held in the same esteem from a vocal standpoint. Maybe all that pole smoking makes their vocal chords more flexible? Hard to say.

So Rob Halford is the best singer ever and his band created the genre of music that we all love. Is that enough for you? It should be but if you are still in doubt consider some of the other evidence. Halford is, above all else, a showman. From riding Harleys on stage to the head to toe leather and studs, he invented the metal look. His counterparts at the time (Ozzy, Plant, Mercury) looked like hippies, his attire and attitude screamed out "Fuck hippies, I am a bad ass". It was no coincidence that Paul Di'Anno, Iron Maiden's first frontman, was decked out in leather and studs. Halford is also a tough fucker. He once crashed his Harley as he rode onto stage and broke his nose. He got up, got the bleeding under control and forged ahead, completing the entire set.

The admission by Halford that he was, in fact, a homosexual was not surprising but it was still ballsy considering the metal community's generally conservative attitude. I personally believed, at the time, that Priest would seen differently from there forward, but I was wrong. I do think that his stature and talent protected him from the scorn that a lesser artist would have received. When I was younger, I always thought of him in a negative light but I have been listening to Priest regularly now for a year or so and I now don't give a shit who he likes to fuck. I actually think it is amusing that he is gay when I hear songs like "Ram It Down". Everytime I hear that song I think of the straight groupies that he most certainly devirginized backstage! As much as I don't like the visual thought of it, it is funny to consider that he was fucking previously straight guys because they worshipped him! Ha, ha. "Who is your Metal God?"...fucking classic.

To sum things up, Rob Halford is a Viking amongst men. Many of us here look up to athletes, musicians and strength athletes and we overlook their flaws whether its being a prick, drug abuser or any number of other transgressions. I guess I don't view Halford's gayness any differently. I wish he were not gay but ultimately I cannot do, and more importantly, should not do anything about it. I honestly feel like it is time for us as conservatives to take a look at our stance on homosexuality. First, we can stop this shit about it being a complete choice. People who think that, inevitably, have never been around gays when they were young. I knew a handful and it was obvious early on in middle school. I am amused by our stances on personal freedom in all facets and yet, somehow, we view being gay as somehow different. If you are offended by homosexuality, that is your choice and there is nothing wrong with that. We do have a duty as conservatives to oppose the gay lobby and the drive to make sexual preference into a civil rights issue. It is not, who you have sex with is much different than race or sex. So I guess "Hate the sin, love the sinner" is the operative phrase here.

I feel like I have been on my soapbox enough. I know that some of you will be offended that I chose to anoint a gay man as an Arthur's Hall Viking but I really don't give a damn. Rob Halford is a fucking man, end of story. Just remember that when you are listening to your favorite metal band. This dude is metal. Without him, we may not have Slayer or Maiden and his contribution to OUR manliness by inventing the modern metal sound far outweighs his sex life. Hail the Metal God!
