FINALLY!!! THE SEATTLE SEAHAWKS 2006 NFC CHAMPIONS
The title says it all. Finally!! The Seahawks are headed to Super Bowl 40 as the NFC Champions. I was at Qwest Field, the greatest stadium in the NFL to witness the domination that was the NFC Championship Game. This article is not a recap of the game, you can read those anywhere. This article will tell you what it was like to be there and experience it.
I was unable to get to Seattle until about an hour before the game and the first thing I noticed was that there was no traffic on the main roads around Qwest Field. This was strange but then I realized that everyone was already in the stadium or at the local bars getting absolutely shitfaced. So I knew that this boded well for the Hawks because drunk fans are loud fans. If you are not a football fan (you are a disgusting pussy) crowd noise is a factor in NFL games. It is critical for an opposing offense to be able to communicate and when they can't hear they have a hard time making adjustments at the line of scrimmage. This leads to mistakes, penalties and a sense of doom for an offense. This is what happened to the Carolina Panthers. These guys were scared and I could see it in their eyes.
I arrived at my seat about 10 minutes before the game started and the stadium was electric with noise and energy. Fans had tall cans of beer, noise makers and more importantly, they had their voices. From the opening kickoff, the Hawk fans literally controlled the game. Yes, the Seahawks were the better team but our crowd made it nearly impossible for the other team to play on offense and it was great to be a part of that. I know that many of you across the universe may wonder why this is such a big deal........let me tell you why. The Seattle Seahawks, prior to this season, had not won a playoff game in 21 years which was the longest streak of futility in the NFL. I have been a Seahawk fan my whole life and I have suffered long and hard with this franchise. I can remember the 1983 playoff season as a five year old and I guess that will tell you how big of a football fan I am. I love all sports, competition is my lifeblood but football is my passion. It is the ultimate test of manhood, a true modern battlefield where modern gladiators literally try to kill each other. Football is the ultimate team game, without perfect precision a football team is worthless regardless of the physical talent it may possess.
I am not sure that I am capable of writing anything that makes much sense right now but I just wanted to share my enthusiasm and passion for the game of football. The game literally brought tears to my eyes. Of course, that was the first time ever!! Ha, Ha. Super Bowl Prediction.
SEATTLE 27-PITTSBURGH 17!! SUPER BOWL CHAMPS BABY!!
